What's a better decision buying an older used car with cash or financing a certified pre-owned car?
I am considering a 1997-1999 BMW 3 series with 80,000-100,000 miles in the 6-7k range. On the other hand, I am looking at a Certified 2006 Audi A4 with 45,000 miles for $20,000.
Pay CASH and not with every penny. Assume it will need repairs and put $1000 aside for it and maybe 40% of the payment you would have used paying for a more expensive car.
Then you will have plenty of cash for any & all repairs and you can SEE all the money you have saved.
All that said, A used Audi is not a cheap car to maintain.Nor are any of the luxury cars for that matter.
You would still be better off buying cheaper. Just expect expensive repairs. Your fund will pay for them so dont sweat it. Just start it with $1000 and 40% of the payment of the higher priced car.
